A nifty Adobe AIR application that brings Google Analytics to the desktop.
Brian Clifton is running a multi-part series (Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4) on implementing web analytics (with lots of nods to Google Analytics)
Afshan Kirmani’s series Getting a Form’s Structure Right and the accompanying podcast (32:14) in which “she talks further with Jeff Parks about the concepts of affordance, orientation, and chunking. They go into detail about the importance of security, lure, and communicating with the end user through text and graphical elements to ensure they know precisely where they are in the application process.”
E-Mail Success or Failure – a great example from Kevin Hillstrom author of Hillstrom’s Multichannel Forensics.
David Gray from XPlane has launched VizThink a new community for visual thinkers, and there is a conference (VizThink ’08). Interesting presenters and ideas will abound at this event.
Speaking of conferences: I won’t be making the D.C. EMetrics Marketing Optimization Summit this time around and can’t make it out to WebCom Montreal on November 14. Perhaps someone else can take my place.
Congrats to Stratigent, Visual Sciences first Visual Site Certified Partner.

An item from Gene’s post on Tinfoiling that makes me think:
The lowest employee on the organization chart has the great contact with the member. But why are they the least consulted when it comes to any change in process with the member?

I’m done with my last analytics course at UBC. This weekend is Thanksgiving here in Canada so I’m going to enjoy some turkey with family, sleep in, go for a couple runs and enjoy the extra time off. Here’s this week’s remainders.
Orbicule’s Undercover might be a good solution for those worried about their Mac laptop/desktop being stolen.
John W Ellis’ The 5 E’s of a Social Site: 1) Engage product conversation (the good and the bad); 2) Educate consumers 3) Experience – Allow consumers to get a sense of the product through free samples, related games, video, audio, etc. 4) Entertain – Create a memorable experience 5) Encourage referrals – Allow visitors an easy way to spread the word easily.
On September 8 and 9, the Rails Rumble took place. The goal to create a web app in just 48 hours, start to finish. Some pretty impressive results. The winners: TastyPlanner, Checkbook, Admiteer. I’d love to see the credit unions do something like this. Tackling a problem area, mapping out a solution and coding it all up in a weekend. I know Dan would likely be all over this.
If you live in or near San Diego the San Diego Software Industry Council is holding a forum on ANALYTICS on October 25. It’s a half-day conference plus workshop. Just one of many events the SDSIC holds.
A nice overview of Fitt’s law from the folks behind Wufoo.

Mitch Joel from Twist Image has posted #71 in his podcast series – Six Pixels of Separation. This time it’s an interview with Bryan Einsenberg and Avinash Kaushik. According to Mitch it has “tons of philosophy and insights about consumers, their online experiences, voice of the customer, and where the Web will (hopefully) go”

Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and media players built with Microsoft Silverlight are easily integrated with web analytics services like WebTrends On Demand. Web Analytics services collect data about web usage behavior and allow businesses to measure how web sites perform against business goals. Because most web analytics services use JavaScript page tags to identify and quantify web usage behavior, they easily integrate with Silverlight’s JavaScript programming model. Silverlight’s JavaScript-accessible document object model (DOM) enables web developers to integrate web analytics into at any stage of the web development process. This web seminar will demonstrate how to incorporate existing web analytics services into Silverlight applications and then take advantage of the separation between the design in XAML and code in JavaScript to do effective A/B testing.
